Ray qualified as a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1966 and worked in pensions with Unilever plc. He joined Cornhill Insurance, now Allianz Cornhill plc, in 1969, becoming Chief Executive in 1988 until his retirement in 2003. He now holds a number of non-executive positions with various companies and charities
